Overview
Antique cast metal horse figure dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, depicting a saddled horse in a raised-leg stance mounted on an integral rectangular plinth base.
Construction
The sculpture has strong sculptural form and substantial weight, consistent with decorative figures produced in cast iron or spelter (zinc alloy) during the Victorian and early twentieth century period. The horse is modeled with saddle and tack and stands in a dynamic pose, giving the figure an animated equestrian presence.
Surface & Patina
The surface shows extensive natural age patina, oxidation, and wear, including areas of greenish corrosion and surface loss, likely remnants of an original painted or patinated finish. This type of wear is typical of antique decorative cast metal figures.
Maker
The underside of the base is unmarked, which is common for decorative cast figures produced for mantel or shelf display during the period. The piece appears structurally intact with no obvious modern repairs observed.
Display
A decorative antique equestrian figure with strong rustic character suitable for mantel, bookshelf, or desk display.
