Antique display card of Joseph Gillott’s “Lithographic Pen” nibs, manufactured in Birmingham and London, England. The printed card advertises Gillott as “Manufacturer to the Queen, by Special Appointment,” and notes the pens are adapted for writing on stone with exceptionally fine points.
The display includes multiple steel lithographic pen nibs mounted on the original printed card along with a turned wooden pen holder. Joseph Gillott was one of the most prominent 19th-century manufacturers of steel pen nibs, widely used by artists, draftsmen, and printers during the Victorian period.
The reverse of the card shows a printed descriptive list of Gillott pen varieties. A decorative and collectible example of early writing and printing ephemera associated with Victorian-era pen manufacturing and graphic arts tools.
