Pre-Columbian style ceramic stirrup spout vessel modeled in a stylized fish form. The vessel features a traditional stirrup handle with central spout, molded fins, incised facial detailing, and painted geometric decoration to the tail.

The form is reminiscent of ceramic vessels produced in ancient Peru and surrounding regions, where stirrup-spout pottery was widely used in ceremonial and daily contexts.

According to the consignor, the piece comes from a family collection. The consignor notes their mother worked for the International Art Exhibition Foundation. A catalog or inventory number (“PE1-15C”) is written on the underside of the vessel.

The consignor reports performing a DIY water absorption test on multiple areas of the clay as well as a water test of the ink decoration, with no observed bleeding.

Please note: No thermoluminescence (TL) testing, laboratory analysis, or independent authentication has been performed by Grandview Art & Auctions. This vessel is offered as consignor-attributed and is sold as-is. Prospective bidders are encouraged to review all photographs carefully and bid according to their own assessment.

Approx. 7 inches in length (see tape measure photograph).

Condition

Hairline crack visible across the body (see photos). General surface wear, scattered scuffs, and handling wear consistent with age and storage. Inventory/catalog number written to underside. No additional chips or restorations observed.

Provenance

Personal Collection
